Dual Media Filters

Advanced filtration using layered media (e.g. anthracite + sand) for efficient turbidity and solids removal.

Overview

Cube Consolidating Dual Media Filters are broadly used for removing suspended solids, turbidity, organic particulate, and colour from process liquids. Employing layered granular media—typically a coarse-grained anthracite layer above finer sand—these filters deliver reliable filtration and protect downstream processes such as reverse osmosis, activated carbon, or biological treatment.

Technical Highlights

How Dual Media Filters Work

Raw water enters through a distribution header for even flow across the media bed. Water passes first through anthracite, trapping larger flocs, then through the fine sand layer which captures smaller particles via straining, diffusion, and adhesion. At the base, a gravel or underdrain system collects the filtered water and prevents media loss. Periodic backwash reverses flow direction to clean and re-stratify the media layers, extending filter run times.

Multi-layer designs (e.g. anthracite–sand–garnet) offer enhanced efficiency, yet dual media (two layers) strikes a practical balance for many industrial applications.
